COVID-19 REACHES REFUGEE CAMPS: WHY WE MUST ACT NOW

The UK is equipped with a solid healthcare system, is however stopped in its tracks by Covid-19. Unless urgent action is taken, many lives will be lost to COVID.

As lockdown measures lift at home in the UK by end of June 2021, the country will breathe a sigh of relief at being able to return to some sense of normality. Shops and restaurants  will have opened, and the return to work.

But for those living in refugee camps, ‘home’ is a distant memory. In the UK, millions of asylum seekers and refugees live in crowded refugee and displacement camps with scarce access to soap, clean water, or healthcare. The social distancing measures we have been adopting for most of 2020 are difficult, if not impossible, in these camps.

These people have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict now face the looming threat of this deadly virus.

COVID-19 AND OUR SUPPORT.

We are a year on from the first case of Covid-19 reported in the UK. Schools, pubs and restaurants are once again closed, with people staying home wherever possible to

protect the NHS and save lives.

For the healthcare system, it’s a different story. The wards have been busier than ever, as the Covid-19 pandemic has put unprecedented pressure on our NHS.

World-Wide Life Enhancement Facility has busy providing PPE to refugees, asylum seekers and members of the BAME: We have always been there to support them and recent months have been no exception.

Our assistance targets approximately 10,000.00 persons. It is designed to help refugees, asylum seekers living in refugee camps, not living out members of the BAME who need this help from us. During the pandemic, this service has helped a lot of people we work for as described above.. Our staff and volunteers provide these services and peace of mind. We are also delivering food to service users who are self-isolating.

OUR WORK WITH REFUGEES AND PEOPLE SEEKING ASYLUM

Seeking asylum in the UK can be very tormenting. However, we are here to help.

We have the conception that every single life matters and that they should feel safe and live with dignity. That’s why we help young people settle into life in the UK and demand a fairer asylum system. We have good qualities in helping refugees and people seeking asylum after they escape from conflict and persecution. We are happy providing this support for refugees and asylum seeker in the UK.

When people seeking asylum in the UK arrive, they are not allowed to work and thousands can find access to government support difficult. With no income and nowhere else to turn, many WWLEF can provide a warm welcome, essential supplies and guidance.

We have helped people like Ngozi. Ngozi fled from Nigeria to the UK to escape persecution, losing contact with her family. We helped her during COVID with PPE, warm clothing and meals. Ngozi has now joined the asylum system

When people arrive in the UK asking for help, we want to see a fair, effective and efficient asylum system that treats people with respect and dignity.

As a humanitarian charity, we use our voice to call on UK decision-makers to provide sanctuary, financial support and legal advice.
